What does a city do with an 800-year-old church withno congregation? Well, it could make like the Dutch and convert it intoa temple of books. The old Dominican church in Maastricht was beingused for bicycle storage not long ago, but thanks to a radicalrefurbishment by Dutch architects Merkx·Girod it has been turned intowhat could possibly be the most beautiful bookshop of all time。

在一间拥有800年历史的古教堂里读书是什么感觉？不久前，荷兰马斯特里赫特市的多米尼加教堂还是一个供人们存放自行车的地方。荷兰建筑师默克斯·吉罗德给这座废弃的教堂带来了惊人变化，他把教堂改造成了一家书店。

The Boekhandel Selexyz Dominicanen, which opened justbefore Christmas, retains the character and charm of the old church,while being fitted with a minimalist and modern interior design thatovercomes any suggestion of fustiness. From the images you can find onthe web you can see that it is a bookshop made in heaven.

书店2007年圣诞节前刚刚开张。吉罗德尽量保留原有建筑风貌，只在内部装饰上作了些许变动，添加了一些现代元素，令整座教堂焕然一新。在一排排书架间穿行，头顶上方是高大、美丽的教堂穹顶，难怪有人把这里称为“天堂书店”。

TOP 2：El Ateneo in Buenos Aires
