一滴水的幸運
(關於我們的歌本《懷舊金曲》,附歌間補白名人語錄)

我們倆都是七十多歲,意外獲得邀請, 出席了2006年11月25日至28日在澳大利亞墨爾本舉行的「中國自由文化運動第一屆年會」,得以與袁紅冰先生等一些對中國自由文化有傑出貢獻的英豪們聚集一堂,聆聽了他們的精彩演說,包括觀賞了著名詩人黃翔和貝嶺兩位先生親自朗誦的詩作,深感榮幸。演說者不僅都在文化學術方面有突出成就,並都曾為捍衛自由而經受牢獄之苦或其他磨難。沒有發表演說的,除我們兩人外,也都是可敬佩之人。例如在會場為中國民運英國友人羅傑;加賽德先生當同聲翻譯的年輕而溫文秀麗的曾錚女士,過去我們從未聞其名,這次認識後,瞭解到,她作為一名法輪功修煉者,英勇捍衛了人權和自由,在贈給我們的一本她自己寫的書《靜水流深》裡,她敘述了自己在牢獄中親身經歷以及親眼見證的令人難以置信的人間苦難。又例如,在會上未演說也未發言、已有白髮但仍算中年的文思先生,接觸中只覺得他和藹風趣,後來才知道他是位自由作家和文藝評論家,在網上發表過不少好文章。總之,和其他到會者相比,我們只是兩個極平庸的老人,卻也獲邀參加了這樣一個盛會,既感榮幸,又感慚愧。

我們只不過編譯了一本漢英對照中外老歌歌本,(即上海音樂出版社出版的「懷舊金曲「),在歌本的補白語錄中有一些闡述民主自由理念的名言,算是一種自由文化,正好切合這次大會的主題,因此被邀出席。我們做的這點區區小事,能被納入一場偉大的自由文化運動,就像一滴水能在揮發掉以前匯入一股千古浩瀚洪流,這種幸運,首先要感謝自由作家黃河清先生,他在E-mail中向袁紅冰先生介紹此書時說:「這本書能夠在上海音樂出版社成功出版,其本身就是一種象徵和標誌,象徵著自由文化運動不滅。」 當然,更要感謝袁紅冰先生,他一再盛情邀請,使我們終於打消了覺得自己不夠與會資格並擔心遠途飛行萬一身體不適給大會添麻煩的顧慮,在他的熱情鼓勵下,我們立即連買機票帶打行李,第二天便飛往美麗的城市墨爾本,參加了這次讓我們終生都會感到光榮的歷史盛會。

開會期間,演說者和發言者對「中國自由文化運動」貢獻了各自的寶貴思想和理論,而我們倆思想和知識貧乏,又不善講話,故在會上沒敢發言,只給每位到會的朋友贈送了一本「懷舊金曲」作紀念。已故著名自由作家王若望先生的夫人羊子女士(她本人也是一位自由作家)對我們編譯此歌本特別表示稱讚。過去從未謀面的黃河清先生這次見面後也再度給我們鼓勵,尤其是在墨爾本大會結束近半個月後,我們打開E-mail,意外地收到他寫的一篇已在幾個網站發表的短文,文中極力表揚我們本人及我們的歌本,我們理解黃先生是想盡量為我們的歌本作宣傳,因此,雖明知他對我們實在太過獎,但還是十分感謝他的一片真誠和善意。其他許多朋友,例如七十年代便因撰寫《特權論》坐牢的民運思想理論家陳泱潮先生及中國民主組黨先鋒徐文立先生等,都對我們的歌本給予鼓勵。徐文立先生還說,此歌本,尤其是其中的語錄,有益於對青年的民主教育,應予推廣,因此他歡迎我們給 www.cdp1998.com網站投稿。我們感謝這種支持,雖不善於寫作,仍然決定來投一篇稿,簡單介紹一下此歌本編譯初衷,然後主要將歌本補白的語錄,首先是論術民主自由的部分,漢英對照抄錄出來。抄錄這些語錄,是為了表明,我們之所以支持「中國自由文化運動」,是基於對先哲們民主自由思想的認同 ,也可算是我們事後補上的會上發言吧。

正如我們在過去給黃河清先生的信中說過的,我們編譯這個歌本,除了由於自己在中國國內教過英語,覺得唱歌是學習外語一種很好的課外輔助活動,同時也由於深感中國需要民主自由,特別是言論自由,而國內很多人似乎不大明白這一點,因此需要這方面的宣傳教育,卻苦於自己不大會寫文章,即使寫了也無法在國內出版,於是收集了一些自己覺得好聽的中外老歌,英譯漢,漢譯英,湊成103 首,成為一個歌本,同時選了一些名人語錄,包括關於民主自由特別是言論自由重要性的論述,有美國及其他西方國家的,也有中國的,包括王若望先生說的一句話。我們把語錄插到歌間做補白,用此法來宣傳一點民主自由的理念。2003年底出了第一版,發現一些錯誤,(主要是列印方面),而且當時的時局使我們又想添加幾條新的語錄,例如蔣彥永和焦國標等先生說的話,於是爭取重新出修訂版。出修訂版的事,費了不少周折,但最後總算成了。新版書扉頁上寫的是「2005年11月第三次印刷」。新版雖仍不盡如人意,但看到其中包含了我們想添加的幾條我們認為對青年人有啟蒙意義的語錄,心中很高興。

此書銷售情況並不好,我們的目標本來是想對年輕人宣傳一點民主自由理念,但結果大部分年輕人對老歌不感興趣,為數不多的購買者都是些老年人,他們多半是因為喜歡那些老歌才買的,注意語錄的人並不多。不過我們原也沒敢指望這種宣傳方式能起多大作用,我們編譯並傾囊出版此書,只不過為自己在萬般無奈中求一點良心上的安慰而已。

最近有個消息,說有朋友到某地新華書店洽購「懷舊金曲」,被告知說,「出版社正在整頓,無法供書。」我們聯想到,幾個月前,有位好心的朋友看到中國共產主義青年團中央委員會公布的一項為廣大農村青少年建設「移動書屋」而徵求捐書的計畫後,寫了一封信,介紹了我們的《懷舊金曲》和他自己的一本篆刻集《論語選刻》,(對篆刻他雖只是業餘愛好者,但長期鑽研使其藝術已具有一定水平,於是針對世風日下的社會現狀選了論語中一些句子,用篆字刻出,成為一本篆刻藝術集。看來他也和我們一樣,在無奈中總希望盡力做點什麼),他認為這兩本書對青少年有益,並在給共青團中央寫的信中表示,我們雖都是收入不高的退休老人,但如果需要,都願意盡綿薄之力捐贈一些書給農村青少年。共青團中央立即回信表示歡迎,並寫道:「請寄來書樣,由相關部門確定後,我們再商議具體捐贈事宜。」 於是我們這位朋友立即(大約在今年 八月中旬)將這兩本書樣寄去,此後一直老老實實盼回信,如今四個多月過去了,他寄出的書樣如石沉大海,渺無回音。(順便說一句:在此期間,美國國會圖書館的中文館駐北京採購小組倒是採購了我們這兩本書。)這位朋友哪裡知道,那本《懷舊金曲》一旦被「相關部門」注意,事情就會不妙,現在,果不其然,已經有了「無法供書」 的說法。此說法是否確實,尚待查證。但我們已有此思想準備。

如果說書中有任何敏感的歌曲,唯一可能的是著名語言學家趙元任配曲的明末民謠《老天爺》,此歌1949年前頗受自由知識份子歡迎,但1949 年後便消失了,故今天的中年和青年多半不知此歌。80 年代改革開放後,此歌在上海文藝出版社出版的一個歌本中曾一度出現,但後來又銷聲匿跡。不過,除此以外,《懷舊金曲》中的所有歌曲都是五十年代以來中國大陸人們熟悉的中外名曲,應當不會導致「停止供書」。如「停止供書」消息確實,其原因無疑是補白中有些語錄帶敏感性。現在我們將書中全部補白語錄漢英對照,按內容分成A,B,C,D,E五部分,抄錄於下,供有興趣者參閱。第一部分(Part A)就是關於自由、民主、正義的論述。各部分內的各條都按漢語拼音次序排列,每句話後括弧內數字指該句話在歌本中頁數。下面就是這些語錄:
